Once you’ve had your Botox injections, follow these aftercare steps to reduce the chance of developing bruises and gain maximum results from your treatment:
What We Recommend on the Day of Your Treatment:
Take it Easy
After your treatment, it’s best to avoid doing anything too strenuous. Certain activities may elevate your blood pressure and heart rate. If blood flow is increased, this could reduce the efficacy of the treatment. So take it easy for the rest of the day as much as possible by resting and relaxing. If you exercise regularly, postpone your workout for the next 24 hours. In some cases, you may have to wait longer if your doctor suggests it.
Gently Move Your Facial Muscles
Although general exercise should be avoided, it is safe and helpful to gently move your facial muscles around. Movements such as smiling, raising your eyebrows and frowning, can increase the effectiveness and expedite the results of the Botox injection.
Avoid Touching Injection Area or Your Face
While it’s safe to gently move and exercise your facial muscles, don’t rub or touch your face. Avoid placing any direct contact or pressure onto the injection site for the next 24 hours. This includes Botox injections for any other body part. If you have a massage scheduled, postpone it until after your face has had enough time to heal.
Avoid Wearing Makeup After Botox Injection
Wearing and applying makeup could decrease the effectiveness of the treatment. For the next day or so, don’t wear any makeup. The muscles will need time to rest so the Botox can ease into the targeted area. Avoid any other types of skincare treatments for the next two days, such as facials, facial scrubs, and dermal fillers.
Try Not to Sleep on the Injected Area After Botox Injection
Reducing any physical pressure on your face is important to let the Botox work over the next 24 hours after treatment. This also means avoiding extra pressure when sleeping. Try to only lay on the opposite side for the two days and after your treatment, avoid sleeping within the next 4 hours following the injection.
TAvoid the Sun
Exposure to the sun can elevate your blood pressure. So for the next 48 hours following your procedure, avoid exposure to the sun. Also, avoid having a hot shower and don’t go in any hot tubs or saunas unless advised otherwise.
Avoid Alcohol Before and After Botox Injection
Alcohol should be avoided both before the treatment and afterwards for 24 hours.
You Can Resume Work or School
As long as there are no strenuous activities involved and you’re not required to bend down or lie down, you can resume normal activities such as work or school directly after treatment.
